New Bibb County School District teachers are back in the classroom

For the whole week, teachers will learn about the ins and outs of their classrooms and schools as they prepare for the school year to start.

BIBB COUNTY, Ga. — Dozens of Bibb County teachers will be new to the district — or new to teaching altogether. New teacher orientation began on Monday for both groups.

"I will be in the classroom by myself which is nerve-wracking but I’m super excited about it," Kaylee Binford said.

The Bibb County School District kicked off its New Teacher Orientation on Monday. According to the Coordinator of Talent Management and Acquisitions Holly Huynh, the district hired almost 200 new teachers for this school year.

In two weeks, Aya Green is starting her teaching career at Northeast High School.

"This is actually my first time being in the school,” Green said. “So it was good that orientation was here so I could really get a feel for things, see where my classroom is. I can kind of go ahead and do some preplanning. It worked out good."

Green worked for the past 11 years in marketing. She said her transition from marketing to teacher has been smooth so far. Her motivation to get in the classroom came from a special place.

"I was inspired by my mother,” Green said. “She did the same thing last year and she absolutely loves her group of kids. And so, I decided, I’m looking for something different, I’m ready to make an impact, be more involved in my community so I decided to make the change."

Assistant Principal of Northeast High School Jarred Moore said this week is an opportunity to prepare the school's most important resource — the teachers.

"We need good teachers to produce good students, to produce good leaders and people who will actually go out into the world and change society for the better,” Moore said. “So new teacher orientation is always exciting because it gives us a nice jumpstart into the new year."

Orientation runs through Friday, which means the week is just getting started for the new teachers.

If you are interested in becoming a teacher in Bibb County, you can visit the district's career page. You'll need a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university — or a teaching certification.

Bibb County District students will join their new teachers in the classroom on Aug. 5.
