Man's death after Macon corner store fight in April just coming to light

The man died at the hospital roughly nine days after being seriously injured in a fight outside a Macon corner store.

MACON, Ga. — A Macon man died in April, roughly nine days after being "critically" injured during a corner store fight. The Bibb County Sheriff's Office noted the initial fight and arrest but did not notify the public when it turned into a murder investigation.

Christopher Swain, 52, died at Atrium Health Navicent, and according to court documents, Antoine Joseph McCall now faces murder, battery and aggravated assault charges.

The fight happened at the Corner Grocery Store at Walnut Street and Forest Avenue on April 16.

According to the incident report, deputies learned Swain had gotten into a disagreement with a man nicknamed "Miami." He was later identified as McCall.

The indictment accuses McCall of punching Swain in the head, eventually causing his death.

When he arrived at the hospital, McCall was in a coma with a fractured skull as well as a brain bleed, the incident report said.

According to his obituary, he died at the hospital on April 25.

April was one of the deadliest months of the year so far. There were six homicides within a week's span. All told, 12 people were killed during the month of April.

McCall originally only faced an aggravated battery charge. Now, he also faces Malice Murder, two counts of felony murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault charges.
