MACON, Ga. — A wood fire got out of control Tuesday afternoon and caused heavy damage to a South Macon home.
It happened in the 5800 block of Leone Drive West in the Village Green Neighborhood. A man was burning wood in a barrel but the fire spread to a fence and then to the house, according to Macon-Bibb County Firefighters on the scene.
Officials on the scene say the man who lit the fire suffered burns, but no one else was injured. There were also two dogs who escaped from the house, according to Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Shane Edwards.
Fighterfighters were able to get the fire under control, but not before the fire caused heavy damage to the home. The fire also damaged three vehicles along with a truck and trailer.
The fire appears to be accidental, Edwards says. But firefighters were on the scene for several hours after the fire was under control.
