Man arrested in Macon Motel 6 shooting that left 2 hurt, sheriff's office says

The sheriff's office says Cody Stephenson got into a fight before the shooting happened.

MACON, Ga. — A man is in jail Friday evening in the shooting of two men at the Motel 6 near Riverside Drive, according to the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

It happened just after 3 p.m. Friday afternoon, the sheriff's office said.

They say 32-year-old Cody Aaron Stephenson was arrested and booked into the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on one count of reckless conduct and two counts of aggravated assault.

In the updated press release, they say Stephenson got into an argument with another man at the hotel. That led Stephenson to allegedly grab a gun and firing shots through the door and window of the room.

The injured men — between the ages of 25 and 40 years old — were taken to Atrium Health Navicent where medical staff told the sheriff's office they expect them to survive.

They say another person suffered a panic attack because of the shooting.

The shooting caused a large police response Friday afternoon. The hotel, which is behind the Hooters, was swarming with law enforcement investigators.

According to jail records, it appears Stephenson is from Oklahoma.

Much of the investigation appeared to be centered on room 307 on the third floor of the hotel. Sheriff's Office deputies could be seen on the balcony walking in and out of the room taking photos and putting down markers.
