Man arrested after shooting and setting cars on fire in north Macon neighborhood, sheriff's office says

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said the man damaged six cars and hurt a family member after his family reported he was acting "abnormally"

MACON, Ga. — A man was arrested after shooting and setting cars in his neighborhood on fire in west Macon, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said that Scott Malkowski, on Tuesday, was charged with simple battery-family violence, two counts of aggravated assault, four counts of arson and possible charges pending.

A report from the sheriff’s office said deputies responded to a call about a man within the 200 block of Northridge Drive near Lake Wildwood in Macon. According to the report, a man was seen pouring gasoline on a vehicle at a neighbor’s house. A second neighbor’s vehicle was also set on fire, while a third neighbor's house and car had bullet holes.

The report says family members told officers that Malkowski had been acting strangely since Nov. 2. His family testified that they locked him out of the house after he was acting “abnormally”

One family member said they locked up Malkowski’s guns, but he found a rifle, pushing her out of the way to obtain it. His family said they soon locked him out of the house in fear of their safety. 

His family members’ also said he tried to kick down the door before firing his gun and approaching other neighbors’ houses. 

One neighbor said Malkowski approached her home in his vehicle and yelled racial slurs before she ran inside. She said that he pounded on her door before pouring gasoline on her vehicle and lighting it on fire.

Three other cars in her driveway were also damaged in the fire, and part of her home. The sheriff’s office said that six vehicles were damaged in the shooting and arson.
