Macon's the Hot Dog Club honored by Piedmont Hospital. Here's what they do

They honored Shirley Duncan and her late husband with an award, serving the community through hot dogs.

MACON, Ga. — A Macon woman was honored today with the Piedmont Community Hero Award.

Stephen Daugherty, CEO of Piedmont Macon, says that it is an effort to celebrate unsung heroes in the community.

"So we formulated our Piedmont Community Hero Award last year to recognize people in the community that were making a difference often behind the scenes and unnoticed," Daugherty said. "And a way for us too recognize the good work they're doing in the community."

Shirley Duncan and her late husband David Duncan established "The Hotdog Club" back in 2018.

The club serves local children and adults with all sorts of snacks and treats during the hot Central Georgia summers.

Duncan says feeding and connecting with her community is one of her biggest passions

"I consider [it] a high honor," Duncan said.

He says that good work, it helps them feel more in touch with the people in Central Georgia.

"And I hope that I will always continue to look at my community and know them by name," she says, "and not just by people as I pass by."

Duncan says she serves about 150 kids and adults in the community every Friday.
