Here's where to beat the heat in Macon-Bibb County | Pools, splash pads, and hydration, cooling stations

Here's how Macon-Bibb County is helping people beat the heat as summer temperatures soar.

MACON, Ga. — As temperatures soar in Central Georgia, Macon-Bibb County is stepping up in hopes of offering some relief from the heat.

A number of partners — United to End Homelessness, Macon-Bibb, Macon Homeless Coalition, Middle Georgia Community and others — are expanding hydration and cooling stations across Macon-Bibb.

Hydration Stations

After a donation from the local food bank, Macon-Bibb says there are water hydration centers at a few Macon-Bibb recreation centers.

  • Frank Johnson Recreation Center: 2227 Mercer University Drive

  • Rosa Jackson Recreation Center: 1211 Maynard Street

  • Memorial Park Recreation Center: 2456 Second Street

  • L.H. Williams Recreation Center: 325 Pursley Street

However, they also say there is a need for more water and drink donations, too. They say you can donate cases of water at Daybreak, the homeless resource center located at 174 Walnut Street.

Cooling Centers

In terms of where to beat the heat, Macon-Bibb County also says you can go to Daybreak, Salvation Army (1925 Broadway) and Hello House (3600 Brookdale Avenue) along with the county's recreation center. They're considered cooling stations as sweltering temperatures take hold.

Here are the other Macon-Bibb recreation centers not mentioned in the previous list:

  • Elaine Lucas Senior Center: 132 Willie Smokie Glover Drive

  • Bloomfield-Gilead Recreation Center: 1931 Rocky Creek Road

  • Delores A Brooks Recreation Center: 3326 Ocmulgee Boulevard

  • South Bibb Recreation Center: 7035 Houston Road

  • King Park Community Center: 3283 Kingston Court

  • Theron Ussery Park Recreation Center: 815 N. Macon Park Drive

  • Freedom Park Boxing Center: 3301 Roff Avenue
