MACON, Ga. — Friday marked opening night for the Macon Bacon at Luther Williams Field and fans young and old had plenty of new things to experience.
Whether it was your first game or you were a repeat customer, the Bacon had something cooking for everyone. The Bacon added new attractions, including a kids zone and a tiki bar.
The Game On Training Kids Zone has a jungle gym, a wiffle ball field, and a pitching cage for little ones to enjoy while adults cater to the tiki bar and watch the game.
Heidi Roberts was a first-time visitor from Columbus and said the Bacon do an excellent job of including everyone.
"It's great cause these guys, you know, they can go and participate in that. We can continue to watch the game and everything here seems to be really good at incorporating everyone in the family," Roberts said.
Yolanda Clark was in line for the All-You-Can-Eat Buffet and said she enjoyed everything the park had to offer in her first time at Luther Williams Field.
"I think it's great they have Dippin Dots, they have food, drinks and fun," Clark said.
The buffet actually ran out of food. Bacon management said they would honor those who bought All-You-Can-Eat tickets with another game for free on another date.
Repeat customer Cam Gaskins said the fan experience between year one and year two was night and day.
"It seems like they've got everything better in year two. The lines are a lot shorter, they've kinda figured out things a lot better and I'm ready to see how they operate a bigger crowd because a lot of people want to the Bacon this year," Gaskins said.
Macon's hometown team is back in action for the next two months and it's clear the Bacon and their fans are in for a sizzling summer. They're on the field again on Saturday for a matchup with their arch rivals the Savannah Bananas.
