'He has to be caught': Fugitive experts weigh in on Bibb jail escape investigation one month into search

David Gambale and Joshua Skule each have years leading fugitive recovery investigations.

MACON, Ga. — Eight people are in custody after a month of investigating the Bibb County jail escape.

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday afternoon they arrested two more people, Jacorshia Smith and Janecia Green. Both are accused of helping Johnifer Barnwell escape, and face aiding and abetting charges.

They join three others charged with aiding and abetting in connection with the case, along with three of the escaped inmates themselves. One of them, Joey Fournier, is still on the run.

"He has to be caught. And I think it needs to be out there," David Gambale, a Virginia bail bondsman said.

Gambale has 25 years of experience tracking people down who skip on bail. He and Joshua Skule, a former FBI counterterrorism division assistant deputy director, say law enforcement is doing what they can in the investigation.

"They're leveraging all their skillsets to bring all four of these people back to justice. The prosecutors are taking this really seriously as well, as they've charged several that have aided and abetted," Skule said.

He believes it's only a matter of time before they capture Fournier.

"Remember, they have to be right all of the time. They can't make a mistake. They can't slip up. They can't be seen. Where law enforcement is keeping a constant pressure looking for them," Skule explained.

Gambale says the longer a fugitive is out there, the harder it is for law enforcement to catch up. So, he says publicity needs to take a bigger role in their efforts.

"You've got to blast his photo everywhere, whatever it costs. Because it could cost something worse," Gambale said.

Both say the inmates spreading out across the state likely helped them avoid capture for so long.

"Clearly, they dispersed, and they're going where their network could support them," Skule said.

Skule says he has no doubt law enforcement will eventually find Fournier. He says now that the others are in custody, they'll have more resources than ever.
