MACON, Ga. — A boy was killed Monday morning after a car hit them on Riverside Drive, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
They say it was called into the E-911 Center at 3:58 a.m.
According to the press release, deputies responded to a missing person report — a 3-year-old boy — from a hotel within 3900 block of Riverside Drive.
The victim has since been identified by the family as Royal Jamal Rhodes.
Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says it appears the child had left a room at the Suburban Studios hotel without the parents knowing about it. That's near Northcrest Drive.
The sheriff's office says investigators would find the missing child unresponsive after being hit by a car, which had driven away. The sheriff's office says they are looking for the person responsible.
The victim was pronounced dead on the scene by Deputy Coroner Richard Robinson.
The victim's next of kin was notified, the sheriff's office says, and the body will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab for an autopsy.
They say the circumstances around the boy's death are currently under investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-751-7500 and ask to speak with a fatality investigator.
