MACON, Ga. — If you are hitting the roads in Macon on Thursday, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office encourages you to avoid I-75 and parts of Mercer University Drive as the Mercer Bears hold their first home game of the season.
As the Bears take on Presbyterian College, the sheriff's office says traffic will be disrupted from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., making the roads more busy.
So the sheriff's office encourages drivers to take city and county streets rather than I-75. They also say the game will make Mercer University Drive near Mercer busier, so they encourage drivers to take another route downtown.
Gates open to Mercer's Five Star Stadium at 6 p.m. with kick-off at 7 p.m., but festivities begin at 3 p.m. on the adjacent Black Field and the school's "Ford Concert Series" begins at 5 p.m. That's according to a post from the school.
The game against Presbyterian College will be the first game for Mercer's new Head Coach Mike Jacobs. Prior to taking the head coaching gig, Jacobs was the head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne, where he boasted a 32-9 record.
But as the Bears hit the gridiron, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office and the Mercer Police Department will hit the street working to keep traffic flowing as quickly as possible.
