Bibb County deputy pulled gun, tased, punched man after he waved pellet gun outside gas station, report says

The report says efforts to arrest the suspect — punching him, tasing him and threatening to shoot him — didn't work.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office released an incident report revealing more about a fight between a deputy and a suspect outside a Macon gas station last week.

It happened last Thursday just before 7 a.m. outside the Murphy's Express on Gray Highway in East Macon.

The report says the deputy pulled his gun on the suspect, punched the suspect and attempted to tase him after the suspect refused to go under arrest.

Deputy Warren Bruce responded to the scene and, according to the incident report, the situation escalated quickly. Incident reports are written by the responding office, and Bruce wrote the report.

The suspect, Tiynaan Hillard, was at the gas station twirling what appeared to be a dark-colored pistol. It was later released that the pistol was an air gun or pellet gun.

Bruce arrived, pulled his gun and ordered Hillard to drop the firearm. Hillard did.

That's when Bruce ordered Hillard to get on the ground to handcuff him, but Hillard refused. The report says Hillard told Bruce he hadn't read him his rights, so he did not comply.

Bruce then reholstered his weapon and attempted to handcuff Hillard, but he still did not comply. The report from Bruce says Hillard started grabbing his hands and pushing Bruce away from him.

Once Bruce got Hillard to the ground, Hillard started to swing his fists and attempted to grab the deputy's equipment, the report says.

Bruce then started to punch Hillard in the face, which the deputy said "stopped his aggression at first" but he would still not let him handcuff him.

Bruce then pulled out his taser and said Hillard would be tased if he did not turn on his stomach to let Bruce arrest him.

He would then fire the taser at least six times, but the report says Hillard's big jacket blocked the taser.

Bruce then eventually threw the taser out of the reach of both of them and he continued to demand Hillard submit to an arrest, but he refused.

That's when the report says Hillard attempted to grab Bruce's pepper spray, and Bruce then threatened to shoot Hillard if he took his pepper spray.

As Hillard and Bruce continue to grapple, the report says a person dubbed "a good Samaritan" pulled up to the scene to help, but Bruce wrote that he told them to step away because Hillard was too aggressive.

Eventually, additional deputies arrived on the scene and helped Bruce handcuff Hillard, who was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries he suffered during the fight.

The deputy also received some treatment and was drug tested as well.

Hillard was then booked into the Bibb County jail where he was charged with terrorist threats, simple battery on a law enforcement officer and felony obstruction of a law enforcement officer.
