OGLETHORPE, Ga. — An inmate at Macon State Prison died in custody on Wednesday, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
They say Jarod Quayshawn Williams died while serving a 20-year prison sentence of voluntary manslaughter out of Dekalb County. He had at most four years left in his sentence since he had been in custody since 2008.
It is unclear what caused Williams's death based on the Department of Correction's statement.
His body was turned over to the Macon County Coroner and will be taken to the GBI Crime Lab to determine his official cause of death.
Williams's death is under investigation by the GDC's Office of Professional Standards as is standard procedure. Because of that, the GDC will not provide additional information since the investigation is ongoing.
