Macon rehab owner who falsified documents sentenced to federal prison, per report

Reports say she submitted hundreds of fraudulent documents, and previously pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice.

MACON, Ga. — The owner of Middle Georgia Family Rehab has been sentenced to federal prison, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia.

Brenda Hicks, 59, told employees to falsify documents for federal healthcare programs, according to prior 13WMAZ reporting.

“Tampering with documents in a federal investigation is a serious offense that will not be ignored by our office,” U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary said. “Protecting the integrity of an investigation is paramount and all those who attempt to obstruct justice will be held accountable.”

Per the U.S. Middle District release, she has been sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

The release says Hicks also has to pay $191,645.20 in restitution to several healthcare programs, including TRICARE, Medicare, Blue Cross Blue Shield and Medicaid. There is no parole in the federal system.

Hicks previously pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of justice, per the release.
