WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — One of the drivers involved in an accident in Perry on I-75 Monday evening has died, according to Houston County Coroner James Williams.
61-year-old Willie Leon Jarrell Jr. of Macon was pronounced dead at 8:06 a.m. on Wednesday morning at a hospital in Augusta. Bibb Coroner Leon Jones said Jarrell was a long-time employee at Bentley And Son's Funeral Home in Macon.
The crash happened near exit 136 in Perry to Sam Nunn Boulevard at around 8 p.m. on Monday.
The multiple-vehicle crash happened just before 8 p.m., including one car that was completely engulfed in flames.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
In a press release on Wednesday, they said it all started with one vehicle crashing into the rear of another while driving down I-75 south. Then, they say the first car went into the middle lane and struck another vehicle.
The first crash, however, also led to a group of other vehicles crashing, too.
The crashes shut I-75 down completely for roughly two hours, the press release said.
The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate
