MACON, Ga. — A loud boom echoed through downtown Macon as lightning struck the historic Grant's Lounge during severe storms Saturday night.
Rickey Crawford said he was inside when Grant's was hit.
"We thought it was a bomb, really. That's how loud is was. In the building, the only thing that went out was the television set," said Crawford.
Grant's Lounge owner Cheryl Grant Louder said she came running when one of her employees told her what happened.
"I was not here, but I heard the loud noise from my home," she said. "I thought the worst."
She said she pulled up about the same time Macon-Bibb firetrucks and EMS did.
Bricks went flying when the lightning hit and shattered at least two car windshields parked on Poplar Street.
Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said everyone was escorted out safely, and no one was injured.

Louder said she is grateful the damage wasn't any worse.
"I was just thankful and glad that it wasn't as bad," she said.
Louder assured everyone that it will be business as usual on Tuesday.
"We want everyone to join us here at Grant's to help us keep the music alive," she said.
Grant's is celebrating their 49th anniversary in March.
