See how this Central Georgia county prepared for Tropical Storm Debby

People in Laurens County experienced their share of rain, but not on the same level as some of the other counties in Georgia

DUBLIN, Ga. — In Laurens County, public safety agencies have spent the last few days monitoring the route of Tropical Storm Debby

Laurens County EMA Director Bill Laird says they were lucky as Debby moved through the state, and saw reports of one to 4.5 inches of rain.

He says once the rain stops, they will check roadways like the dirt roads in the county because they want to make sure they don't have any damage or washouts. He says there are a few places in Dublin that saw more rain than others.

"We have not had any reports of any issues in any of those areas," Laird said. "There are a few areas out in the county that we can expect to in the past that have been issues. A lot of that, once it gets identified is put on a list of things we need to address and take care of."

Rebecca Howell from Dublin works as a nurse in Putnam County, which is about an hour and 20 minute drive to and from Dublin. She says the storm is a break from the hot weather central Georgia has seen.

"I love this kind of weather," Howell said.

Howell says she's been through many storms and hurricanes, and they are all different. She says she's been watching weather radars to know when to leave for work.

"I pull up to see when the bad weather is coming - is there going to be a lot of rain - so I can adjust of time on leaving," Howell said.

Laird says he's been in contact with the schools in the county, the weather services, and law enforcement but he's not the only one working this weather operation.

He says the county is fortunate that Debby was downgraded to a tropical storm. He says with any severe storm, people should always have a plan.

"I like to call it the 'What if-ing' your life," Laird said. "Rather than waiting till the emergency actually happens to decide what we're going to do, look ahead."
