Jet-maintenance company's Macon facility receives certification

The Embraer Aircraft Maintenance Services south Bibb facility was operating as a satellite location under the Nashville facility's certification

MACON, Ga. — An aircraft-maintenance company's facility based at the Middle Georgia Regional Airport is officially certified.

The Embraer Aircraft Maintenance Services south Bibb facility earned its 145 Repair Station Certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.

The facility was operating as a satellite location under the certification of the company's Nashville facility since it opened in 2018.

“It hasn’t taken long for our community – from its location to workforce to resources to people – to show Embraer this is where they need be,” Macon-Bibb Mayor Robert Reichert said in a release. “I’m delighted Embraer continues to make an investment in our community by earning this certification and for better serving their customers.”

A release from the Macon-Bibb County Industrial Authority says the facility worked over a year to earn the certification.

Embraer announced it would open the maintenance, repair, and overhaul operation at the airport and bring about 100 jobs to the area in April 2018.

Today, Embraer employs almost 200 people at its Macon facility, according to the release.

“This designation signifies Embraer’s continued commitment to growing their presence here in Macon-Bibb County and further validates that Macon-Bibb County, Georgia is a great place to do business,” Industrial Authority Chairman Robby Fountain said.

The release says Embraer is the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer.

“This allows Embraer in Macon to move beyond a one-year work away authorization from Nashville, Tennessee,” Embraer Vice President of Operations John Masters said. “Embraer in Macon-Bibb County has worked with the Nashville and Atlanta FAA Offices for a year to achieve this authorization and Embraer is committed to staying in the current Macon-Bibb County facility.”

In 2018, the Brazilian company signed a three-year lease in Macon.
