MACON, Ga. — Despite initial plans to make his first campaign visit to Macon on Thursday, Republican Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance won't be making the trip due the incoming Hurricane Helene.
On Wednesday, a Trump-Vance campaign spokesperson said that Vance and his team will not be making the trip down. The spokesperson cited safety as the main concern.
They cited Helene specifically as the primary cause for concern. The spokesperson said that they wanted to keep everyone as safe as possible, and with the storm, that wasn't possible.
Vance was set to speak on the economy at the Edgar H. Wilson Convention Center on Thursday, Sept. 26. This would have been his first trip to Macon since his selection as the Republican Vice Presidential candidate by former president Donald Trump.
Several other local business owners, like Tommy Sadler — owner of Tommy's Bakery and Cafe — were also set to speak at the event.
The spokesperson said they currently do not have a date set for rescheduled visit, but are working on setting one up.
