Inmate dies at Telfair State Prison, GDC confirms

The Georgia Department of Corrections says the body was handed over to the coroner.

TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. — An inmate died at Telfair State Prison on Thursday, but they are still working to determine the man's cause of death, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.

Marc Lefevre died while incarcerated at the prison on Thursday, the department says.

At this time, they say there does not seem to be any signs of an altercation or foul play.

He passed away at Dodge County Hospital on Thursday, deputy coroner Mike Morris said. Lefevre's body was sent to the crime lab for an autopsy.

The body was then given to the Telfair County Coroner and will be later taken to the GBI crime lab to determine Lefevre's cause of death, the department says.

Lefevre's death is being investigated by the GDC's Office of Professional Standards, which is standard procedure for the department.

The department did not offer what Lefevre's sentence was. We asked the department for that information, but they did not immediately respond to our question.
