MACON, Ga. — Macon was rockin' and rolling all night at the first concert at the Atrium Health Amphitheater. Performances included Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, and Black Stone Cherry.
More than 6,300 people came to see the concert on Sunday night, and many of them stepped to the beat of the same drum. Each person scanned their ticket and headed over to the concession stands.
"They came hungry tonight, which is good news," Vice President of Operations Charles Lawrence shared.
He says fans already have menu favorites.
"The tacos.. they love the tacos. Especially our pork belly tacos... and they really love the burgers," Lawrence shared.
The amphitheater also has local food vendors. On Sunday night, the locals served peach cobbler, frozen drinks, chicken wings, and more.
"We will be rotating food in that matches the band and the genre. Tonight is the opening night to invite people into the flavors that we have, but as they come, we will continue to have surprises. Good surprises from a food standpoint," he said.
People like Cole Moore are enjoying the amenities, from the lawn space to seating access, more than the food.
"It looks really nice. I can't wait to come back and see more concerts," Lawrence said.
Abby Lawson hopes it breathes life back into the city.
"The atmosphere is great, and I think me, as well as everyone else, hope that it revives the area," Lawson said.
It's definitely bringing people to the city. One family stopped at the concert on their way home to Nashville. They received the tickets as a Christmas gift and wanted to ask the band some questions.
"What do you like? Where's your favorite place to play? Chatting it up about what's their vibe when they're in Nashville," Brad Blankenship said.
Many people were seen taking pictures or buying merchandise. There was a lot of chatter about which song people hoped to hear. The most requested was Free Bird, which closed out the concert.
More than 100 people were working on staff from security to concessions and more.
