Macon man describes how he and others helped save a man's life after the man was hit by a car

The car accident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, per BSO. Witnesses say multiple people helped pull a pedestrian from under the car.

MACON, Ga. — What was a normal night on Cherry Street turned into a disaster after a pedestrian was hit by a car around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Brandon Yawn says it was tough to watch from where he stood as a security guard outside the Hummingbird in Macon.

“He knocked the pedestrian of about 10 feet in the air, came back down, landed on the hood and slid off the front of the hood and the car ran over the pedestrian,” Yawn said.

He says everyone on that street corner stopped what they were doing.

“We were all so shocked because we witnessed and watched it happen,” Yawn said.

But Yawn said he rushed to the spot of the accident, jumping into "hero" mode.

“I immediately hit the ground to check on him to make sure he was okay," Yawn said. "He wasn't responding to me at all, so I started checking for a pulse."

He says after that several people nearby helped pull him out.

“We had one guy that was watching his face, and we had about 10 people lifting the car and when we cleared his face the guy pulled him out,” Yawn said.

He says he's thankful everyone pitched in to help.

“It was actually amazing how all of us came together to get that guy from underneath that car,” Yawn said.

Working on the corner of Cherry Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, he says he sees people speed down the road all the time.

“Maybe drop the speed limit down a little bit or maybe get some speed bumps," Yawn said. "Even if it's a couple going down Cherry Street where we can get them to maybe slow down a little bit."

The Bibb Sheriff's Office says they are still investigating the accident. They say an arrest was made last night, but the arrest was because of a warrant, not due to the crash.
