'It's baffling' | Homeless man talks after Macon man killed while sleeping in alley they shared

The sheriff's office said Albert Knight was sleeping in an alley when he was struck in the head and died from blunt force trauma.

MACON, Ga. — This week, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office has a new photo of a suspect they believe killed a man last month in a Macon alley.

Last month, 59-year-old Albert Knight was struck in the head to death on May 24, in an alley on First Street Lane. His body would be discovered two days later.

Kyle Boehner is homeless in Macon and said he used to share the alley space with Knight.

"Like man, I knew that guy. I've seen that guy for years," he said.

Boehner said he's been homeless on and off for the past five years.

"There have been times in areas where I have been uneasy," he said.

But he said he's never been as uneasy as he's been since hearing the news about Knight's death. He's shocked that someone's gotten away with it for over a month.

"And it's just... it's just kind of baffling. It's baffling that that's where we're at here in Macon," Boehner said.

A week after Knight's death, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office shared videos of their suspect on Facebook. This week, they shared these new, clearer images of the suspect that they say came from downtown cameras.

After what's happened to Knight, Boehner said he's thinking about leaving town until someone is arrested.

"Recently just talked to my family to try to like, you know, to get a reprieve from Macon for a little while," he said.

Over at Felicia's Cake Factory in downtown Macon, baker Ella Williams said she's been on edge since the homicide.

"I feel unsafe because it could've been me walking back there in the alley," she said.

Williams used to be homeless herself but now spends her days around cupcakes instead of drugs. Her job is just minutes away from the alley where Knight was killed.

"Some people don't have a conscience and they don't care about nobody else you know," Williams said. "They're going through some things but people take it out on other people."

Boehner said he feels like people haven't cared enough about Knight's death because he was homeless.

"Homeless people are an easy target for just about anybody's aggression. So it made me think that somebody is possibly targeting the homeless people," he said.

There is a reward of up to $2,000 through Macon Regional Crime Stoppers if anybody has a tip that leads to an arrest.

You can call them at 1-877-68crime or the Bibb County Sheriff's Office at 478-742-2330.
