HANCOCK COUNTY, Ga. — A man in the East Lake area of Hancock County has been missing since Saturday, Jan. 27.
His name is Hoarse Kennedy, and there have been active search parties to help find and bring him home safely.
Kennedy is 67 years old, 5'4" in height and about 140 pounds.
The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office was notified on Jan. 29, 2024, around 3 p.m. He was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, a camouflage jacket, and a red hat. He is known to walk around and visit family nearby.
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Georgia State Patrol and Milledgeville Police have all joined in the search for him
There have even been neighbors that have gotten on ATVs and searched themselves, and the community has gotten together to look too.
Kennedy has been living with his niece Keena Catlett, who says she saw him raking the leaves minutes before he went missing.
"It makes me feel sad," Catlett said. "I don't want anybody out there, family or not, wandering especially in the woods and at that age. They may be lost and when it came to my uncle, it seemed like he was becoming sort of forgetful. So I wanted the police and everybody involved fast and they came very very fast, the helicopter and everything."
Hancock County Sheriff's Chief Investigator Thomas Resha said they've been turning every corner to find him.
"Right now we are pretty much driving every road looking at every place that's easily accessible," Resha said. "He's new to the area, he's had some pretty extensive health problems and takes a lot of daily medication that he hasn't been taking. Now, we're just knocking on doors and having people check their sheds, garages, and other places he could be."
Catlett says Kennedy hasn't taken his medicine in two days, so she just wants him home safe and healthy.
