Jones County Water System issues boil water advisory for specific neighborhoods

The advisory was prompted by a water main break, according to the Jones County Water System. They advise using boiled water or bottled water for drinking and food.

JONES COUNTY, Ga. — The Jones County Water System is advising specific neighborhoods in Jones County to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and preparing food, according to a release from the Jones County Water Department.

The release says a water main break could be disrupting water supply or pressure, and may even contaminate drinking water in affected areas. They say the water pipe was installed next to a boulder, and the years of vibrations between the boulder and the pipe caused the burst.

The Jones County Water Department is asking people on Lite N Tie Road, Clinton Crossing Drive, Twin Lakes Drive, Walnut Grove Road, Aaron Circle, Wesley Lane and Caitlyn Court to boil tap water before drinking it or using it for food preparation.

To properly prepare water, they advise bringing water to a boil, and continuing to heat it for at least one minute after it has started boiling. Then, the release says you are supposed to remove the water from the heat source and allow it to cool before using.

The Jones County Department says you should boil water for each of the following purposes: drinking, brushing teeth, washing and preparing food, preparing baby formula, making ice and serving drinking water for your pets.

Other activities, such as washing clothes and washing dishes, can be done without boiling tap water if the proper guidelines are followed. CDC recommendations for emergency water preparation can be found here.

The release says the drinking water advisory will be in effect until the Jones County Water System has determined there is no longer a contamination concern. Once the advisory is lifted, they recommend rinsing all faucets for at least two minutes before using them for drinking or food preparation.
