In a press release, the Jones County Sheriff's Office along with U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia Charles Peeler, announced they'll be giving away 100 free gun locks starting Wednesday.

People can pick up the locks at two locations in Central Georgia, during business hours:

  • Jones County Sheriff's Office: 123 Holmes Hawkins Drive in Gray
  • Bibb County Sheriff's Office, Sheriff's South Substation: 5797 Houston Road in Macon

They say they received the gun locks from Project ChildSafe, an organization dedicated to distributing firearm safety kits across the country.

The initiative is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice program. They say the program has been proven to effectively reduce violent crime.
