'Just what I love doing': Georgia National Fairgrounds hosts team roping competition

Dozens of teams trotted into the ring where they would, in tandem, try to lasso the front and back legs of cattle.

PERRY, Ga. — The United States Team Roping Championships rode their way to the Georgia National Fairgrounds for the South Georgia Classic Competition on Sunday.

Dozens of teams trotted into the ring where they would, in tandem, try to lasso the front and back legs of cattle.

Men and women of all ages from all across the peach state came to compete.

Ryan Lane is from Savannah, and has been competing for about 12 years. He says roping is what he is most passionate about.

"Being out here its something I've dreamed of since I was a kid. It's an adrenaline rush. Just what I love doing," he said.

Lane competed in the number seven class, which he was placed in based on skill level, and says his biggest competition is himself.

"A lot of parts that kinda have to come together, but I guess i'd have to say being better than I was yesterday. Every day trying to improve and constantly climb up a ladder basically," Lane said.

The competition started on Thursday, Jan. 2 ended on Sunday.
