Georgia Department of Correction announces contraband bust at Hancock State Prison, other facilities

Nine cell phones, 13 charging cords, 229 grams of marijuana and more prohibited items were confiscated during the Jan. 26 bust, the Department of Corrections said.

SPARTA, Ga. — The Georgia Department of Correction arrested two former inmates accused of trying to smuggle drugs, Biofreeze, cell phones and other contraband into Central Georgia's Hancock State Prison in Sparta, according to a press release from the Department of Corrections. 

They say the Hancock County Sheriff's Office and Department of Correction canines responded on Jan. 26 to some "suspicious activity" near the prison. 

During the search of the area around the prison which can hold up to nearly 1,200 inmates — authorities found Lloyd White and Jeaundean White, who themselves used to be incarcerated at Hancock State Prison, the GDC says.

The release does not say why they were in prison and when they were released.

On the former inmates were several prohibited items they were allegedly trying to get into the prison.

They found a large number of technology and various electronic accessories the pair were allegedly trying to get into the facility. They say they found nine cell phones, 13 charging cords, three Bluetooth earbuds and nine charging blocks.

Additionally, they found a bottle of Bio Freeze, Tylenol and acetaminophen. But they also had a number of illicit drugs on them as well, the release said. 

They found two packs of THC Gummies, a bottle of blunt spray, 229 grams of marijuana and 4074 grams of tobacco along with 10 cigarettes.

The release does not say what they were charged with, but they were booked into the local jail.

However, the Hancock State Prison arrests were not the only contraband busts conducted by the Georgia Department of Correction at the tail end of January, according to the release. 

On Jan. 21, security staff at Calhoun State Prison noticed a "suspicious person running into the wood line." They found the man, Nehemiah Robinson in the woods with a drone and a bag of contraband. They're now being held at the Calhoun County Jail.

In Glennville, authorities arrested three people "associated with introducing contraband" into Smith State Prison on Jan. 30. They found drones, contraband, drugs, cigarettes, alcohol, 10 cell phones, marijuana and more, the release said. They also found 17.6 grams of an unidentified powdery substance.

Also recovered were disposable electronic cigarettes and 1 pair of nail clippers, the release said.
