MACON, Ga. — History came to life Saturday at Fort Hawkins in Macon.
They held a 19th century Living History Demonstration, where families learned how to do things like make herbal remedies and cook food from that time period.
People got to see what role the Fort played in the Civil War.
"July 30th will be the anniversary of a battle that occurred here during the American Civil War. It was only July 30th, 1864 that Union raiders were on the grounds of what we know as the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds, now, here at Dunlap Farm. They fired into Macon, hitting the cannonball house," Archivist Wayne Dobson said.
Fort Hawkins says their mission is to 'develop plans and organize activities to bring about the complete restoration of the frontier fort that is the birthplace of Macon.'
