'It's your river family:' Central Georgians come out for Independence Day river float

Float Daze hosted an Independence Day river float and clean up to celebrate the Fourth of July

MACON, Ga. — There are a lot of different ways to celebrate the Fourth of July, but what better way to beat the heat than to float down the Ocmulgee River. Thursday morning, Float Daze hosted its 4th annual Independence Day float at Amerson River Park.

Float Daze is a community organization that has been organizing and floats and keeping the river clean for the past five years.

"This is an incredible day to be out at the river. The whole community comes out to support something we all love to do," says Float Daze president Robert Jackson. "It's hot as can be out and the river's nice and cool."

The river was packed with people looking tube, kayak, and paddleboard with friends and family.

"I love the river. This is like our church," says Heather Warren. "We love everyone out here and we have a great time. It's a huge community basically. It's your river family."

Warren and her family come out to float every weekend, weather permitting. "We got out here before it was even warm enough for us to be out here," says Warren.

If you still want to float, Amerson River Park will be open all weekend long. To rent tubes, kayaks, or paddleboards, it's $10. Contact River Tubing at 1-844-FUN-TUBE.
