MILNER, Ga. — A Forsyth man was arrested on Monday after a GBI investigation revealed he stole from the small Lamar County police department he worked for, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
They say Forsyth resident Jerald Frank Rafferzeder, 57, was a police officer for the Milner Police Department when he allegedly stole from them.
On March 13, the Milner Police Department asked the GBI to help after a LIDAR system belonging to the department went missing. That is essentially a radar that officers use to see how fast a vehicle is going.
Eventually, the GBI discovered that Rafferzeder stole the item and another LIDAR system while working for the department and then sold it for $800, the agency said in the press release.
Rafferzeder was charged with Theft by Taking and Violation of oath of Office.
He was then booked into the Lamar County Sheriff's Office.
The GBI says the investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Milledgeville at 478-445-4173. You can also submit anonymous tips by calling 1-800-597-TIPS or online here.
