WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Central Georgians have helped 13WMAZ and the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank stuff the truck for three days!
Folks who helped in Warner Robins kept reiterating the reason behind their motivation is because they're blessed and they want to bless others.
"It's just something I do!" Ray McCord said as he unloaded donations from his car.
McCord lives in Warner Robins and says he grew up in Arkansas. He said the reason he donates is to share that he cares for others.
"Because I grew up needing this," he said, "and I don't no more."
Robert Dalton said he knows what that's like, too.
"I left home at 14," the Air Force veteran said. "I know what it's like to go hungry. I don't wanna see anyone go hungry."
"It's a blessing to be able to help people," Robert Lyons said after buying food to donate. "It just makes you feel great inside."
Dozens of people came prepared today, like Jose Madera and his sister Elsie Marquez, who stuffed their car with canned goods in advance and brought their donations.
"I thank God we've been blessed!" Marquez joyously exclaimed. "You'll feel a lot better when you give!"
Megan Hays said she's lived in Warner Robins for 19 years and has donated every year. When she used to live in New Mexico, she said, she used to do it there, too.
"Just something I like to do," she said.
Many groups came by, like the Junior League of Perry, who helped volunteer and sort the donated items.
The Perry Lions Club president and secretary also came to show their support. In fact, they said they bought at least one of every item listed on the fliers.
"Canned fruits, soups, canned meats, cereal, peanut butter, pasta, macaroni cheese dinners," they said
Robins Air Force Base employees from the contracting section say the group got together to give back.
"I mean, just think of the less fortunate," she said. "This is a really good event. People should just come out and donate to make sure everyone has something to for Thanksgiving."
