DUBLIN, Ga. — Hunger can affect anybody — it doesn't discriminate. That's why hundreds of people came to Stuff the Truck in Dublin on Wednesday.
Linda Fowler stopped by 13WMAZ's truck to donate items Wednesday morning.
"I love giving. I got a bag full of peanuts for the squirrels and I always buy the mailman something, I always buy the trash pickup man something," she said.
One man came to Middle Georgia Community Food Bank's table in the Dublin Walmart and donated $400 in cash.
Some people gave digitally by scanning a QR code at the table, and many people picked up a shopping list of items the food bank is currently in need of.
Kaylie Davis came to shop with her mom and picked up some items to donate after seeing the truck outside.
"If we can help to a cause like this, than we can help bring food to kids that don't really have a lot of food during family times, or you know, Christmas, Thanksgiving especially," she said.
President and CEO of Middle Georgia Community Food Bank Kathy McCollum said inflation's increased the need this year, but thanks to helping hands, families won't have to go hungry.
"Turnout today has been great. We love being in Dublin, Laurens County of course is one of the 24 counties that we serve," McCollum said.
For some people like Shawanda Wiley, the reason they donated was personal.
"Probably about five or six years ago, I got help from them too, you know, with getting food and stuff," Wiley said.
Thanks to people like her pitching in, more neighbors in Central Georgia will have a happy holiday season.
It was a community effort all around to help fight hunger. The Dublin Walmart donated $400 worth of food items. East Laurens Elementary School Beta Club dropped off over 500 items for donation.
Dublin City Schools AFJROTC cadets also stopped by, and Hillcrest Elementary School Assistant Principal, Dr. Jamie Paulk also stopped by to donate items.
If you'd like to donate Thursday, 13 WMAZ will be in Macon and Warner Robins at these locations:
Macon: 5955 Zebulon Rd on Nov. 16 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Warner Robins: 2720 Watson Blvd on Nov. 16 from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
