Driver gets away after leading Georgia State Patrol on car chase in Macon

He took off after troopers tried to stop him, driving through downtown Macon, west on Eisenhower Parkway to Thomaston Road.

MACON, Ga. — A pickup driver who led Georgia State Patrol on a car chase through Macon got away early Saturday.

According to Georgia State Patrol, it all started when a trooper tried to stop the man around 2:40 a.m. They say his 2015 Chevrolet Silverado failed to maintain its lane near Shurling Drive and Maynard Street in East Macon.

The driver drove off through downtown Macon, west on Eisenhower Parkway to Thomaston Road.

The trooper attempted a PIT maneuver near Conestoga Road. That's when a trooper uses their cruiser to bump a fleeing vehicle, forcing it to stop.

That forced the Silverado off the south side of the road, through a fence and into a field. That’s when the driver got out and ran away.

The trooper has identified the driver, and the state patrol says they'll take out warrants.

They say no further information is available at this time.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more details are available.
