'Now I'm watching my back': Downtown neighbors shaken up following killing in Macon alley

The Bibb County Sheriff's Office released a video of the man they're looking for in connection to the murder.

MACON, Ga. — The Bibb County Sheriff's Office is asking for help to find a murder suspect accused of killing a man last week. Last Sunday, 59-year-old Albert Knight was found dead in an alley near Poplar and Second Street.

The sheriff's office said he had been struck in the head several times. Now, they've released a video of the murder suspect.

Downtown at Union Furniture Company, store manager Jon Preston said they've been busy with their store closing sale. Now, Preston's got something else on his mind.

"Now I'm watching my back," Preston said.

He said it's the talk of the town right now.

"I'm gonna tell you something. You don't try that in small town. Because there's too many people with their eyes wide open that are just not gonna put up with it, you know. And I'm one of them," Preston said.

He's shared the video of the suspect with his store employees, hoping one of them might recognize the man.

"Places like Macon, Georgia, we watch out for each other. You know, and if anybody's seen this guy, man, let 'em know. Because he's a danger not only to you but for anybody out there," Preston said.

13WMAZ spoke with several other businesses downtown who said they either didn't know about the murder or hadn't seen the video of the suspect yet.

Taylor Beasley is a college student at Middle Georgia State University who lives close to where the body was found.

"It makes me feel extremely unsafe. It's very nerve wrecking to know that they don't have that under control yet. And like, having to walk through the alleys, it's really scary," Beasley said.

Now, she hopes the cameras can help catch the person responsible.

"I really do hope so. Especially with all the cameras in the alleyways, I feel like that should be hopefully possible," Beasley said.

The suspect in the video is described by deputies as a white male with glasses and wearing a ball cap. He was wearing a green shirt that possibly says "Hilton Head Island Bike Shop" in white letters. He was also wearing denim jeans and black shoes.

If you recognize this man, call Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68 CRIME or the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500.
