WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Washington County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously on Thursday to revoke Cornbread Pool Room's liquor license, Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran said.
David Ellison, 75, the owner of the Tennille nightclub, also known as the Cornbread Club, was taken into custody on Aug. 16 after he violated a beer and liquor license and ran a disorderly establishment.
At the time, the Board of Commissioners had already planned on voting on Ellison and the club's liquor license. The arrest was made separate as it was a superior court action. The arrest happened five days after a shooting at the club around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 11.
25-year-old Trayvon Hutchinson is still wanted in connection with the shooting for three counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during certain felonies. The sheriff's office passed the search to the United States Marshall's Fugitive Squad.
"We've had quite a few incidents involving firearms and people being shot at this location," Cochran said. "So in communications with the county about this thing, we just felt for the sake of public safety and the people in that neighborhood, it was time we needed to come in."
A judge, following the shooting, agreed to close the club at the request of Cochran. The sheriff said he and his deputies have been called out to the pool room about 21 times in the past three years.
"A year and a half ago, I went personally and talked to him and his family," Cochran said. "[I] talked about the concerns of this establishment and gave them some very encouraging information or suggestion that, you know, it was getting out of hand."
