MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Human remains were found in Milledgeville on Monday, according to the Milledgeville Police Department.
In a post to Facebook, they said they got the call around 5 p.m. on Monday. They say human remains were found in the woods near the end of Mayfair Court.
When officers arrived, they found a decomposed body down in a shallow creek bed.
They said due to the state of the body, the identity could not be determined on-site.
The remains were turned over to the coroner's office to be taken to the GBI crime lab for identification and investigation.
They say more information will be released once an identification has been made and the next of kin has been notified.
