These 13 murder cases have gone to trial in Bibb County in 2024

On murder charges, the Macon DA's Office conviction rate is only 60% in Bibb County. Here are the cases that make up that statistic.

‘They failed us’ | Macon’s DA office loses over 60% of murder trials, court records show

In 2024, the Macon District Attorney's Office has lost more murder trials than they've won in Bibb County, an analysis of court documents from 13WMAZ found.

In 13 murder trials in Bibb County this year, the Macon District Attorney's Office secured only five murder convictions, a 38.5% conviction rate.

According to statistics from the Department of Justice, the average conviction rate was 60% in murder trials in 2009, based on an analysis of the 75 largest counties in the United States.

Here's a look at all the murder cases in Macon-Bibb County and their outcomes. 

Brandon Mathew Tyler: guilty

Accused in the death of Deroderick Ridley at the Death Valley block party, Brandon Tyler was the first murder trial of the year in Bibb County. On March 12, he was convicted by a jury of malice murder, felony murder and two counts of aggravated assault. 

He was acquitted on the charge of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was sentenced to life without parole plus 20 years.

Joey Fournier: guilty

Joey Fournier, who escaped from the Bibb County jail while awaiting trial, was convicted by a jury in the 2022 death of his long-time girlfriend, Cynthia Berry. 

He testified that he and Berry were drunk at the time and Berry said something about his child that "made him see red." After that, he said he did not remember anything about what happened.

He was convicted on April 4 of malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Andre Lamar Davis: not guilty

On June 21, a jury found Andre Lamar Davis not guilty on three counts of murder along with armed robbery in the death of Timothy Williams, who was found shot a sidewalk. 

He was convicted on aggravated assault charges and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Anthony Green: guilty

A jury convicted Anthony Green on July 18 of murdering Notorious Williams and Davius Johnson at a party in south Macon back in 2020. According to the sheriff's office, there was a fight at the party, which prompted multiple people to pull out guns and start shooting.

Green was sentenced to two life sentences without parole plus 20 years, plus 10 years, plus five years and plus 15 years.

Jierye Chavis Moore: not guilty

Accused in the death of Joseph Woolfolk, a 17-year-old basketball player, a jury acquitted Jierye Chavis Moore of murder on June 21. He was found not guilty on two counts of felony murder, but was convicted of robbery. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison.

Xavier Jamal Lewis: not guilty

A codefendant of Jierye Moore, Xavier Jamal Lewis was also acquitted in the murder of Joseph Woolfolk. He was found not guilty on two counts of felony murder but convicted on robbery on June 21. He was sentenced to 5 years in prison. 

Another co-defendant, Dalton Spires, pleaded guilty to robbery in exchange for testifying against Lewis and Moore. He was sentenced to 5 years with only two to be served in prison.

Carla Rochelle Pounds: guilty

Carla Rochelle Pounds was convicted in the murder of her 1-year-old son. Her son, De'Yuntis Pounds, was found to have been hit in his head and body before ultimately dying. 

She was convicted on June 28 of malice and felony murder along with cruelty to children.

Denzel Leon Clark Sr.: guilty

Denzel Leon Clark Sr, who was Carla Rochelle Pounds' boyfriend, was also accused in De'Yuntis Pounds death. While he was also charged with the same counts as Pounds, he was acquitted by the jury on all counts, finding him not responsible in De'Yuntis' death.

Dylan Sampson Smith: not guilty

Accused in the double murder of Trey Marcel Smith, 30, and Debarius Devonte Sanford, 27, a Bibb County jury found Dylan Sampson Smith not guilty on all charges in their deaths. The verdict came down on Aug. 9, finding him not guilty of murder. 

Sanford and Smith were found shot to death outside a Macon gas station on Feb. 14, 2022.

Kendrea Terrell Hubbard: not guilty

Kendrea Terrell Hubbard was found not guilty on murder charges in the June 20, 2022 death of 16-year-old Hakeem Flowers. Flowers was found shot to death at a vacant lot on Mason Street where a fight broke out and multiple people fired shots.

When they went to trial, Hubbard was found not guilty on malice murder but convicted of voluntary manslaughter, the jury decided. He was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Brian Greene: guilty

A Bibb County Jury found Brian Greene guilty on multiple counts of murder on Oct. 24, 2024, in connection to two separate shootings. In one case he killed a man on a date, and then 8 days later, he shot a man buying ice outside a gas station. 

He has been sentenced to life without parole.

Tenita Shoats: not guilty

Accused in the death of her husband in 2017, Tenita Shoats was acquitted on all counts — including murder. She was accused of murder in her husband Vernon's death; the defense argued that the shooting was in self-defense.
