MACON, Ga. — It's been nearly three weeks since 59-year-old Albert Knight was killed in a downtown Macon alley near the intersection of Poplar and Second Street.
Last week, 13WMAZ spoke with Rhonda Williams, the assistant director of Daybreak Day Resource Center, which provides assistance to Macon's homeless population.
Williams confirmed Knight was homeless and spent the past few years coming to Daybreak daily.
"Ken Knight was a gentle man," Williams said.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said Knight died from a severe head wound and had been struck several times. After reviewing security camera footage from nearby businesses, they released a video of a suspect they're looking for.
The sheriff's office said the suspect is a white man with glasses, who was wearing a ball cap, a green shirt that possibly says “Hilton Head Island Bike Shop” in white letters, denim jeans and black shoes.
Williams said they held a memorial for Knight at Daybreak after he was killed.
"We were devastated. Absolutely, devastated because he was such a kind man, stayed to himself, never bothered anyone," Williams said.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office told 13WMAZ there have been many tips that have come in that they've followed up on.
Sheriff David Davis said they've spoken with the local bus lines and businesses to ask them to keep an eye out for the suspect.
We asked Davis if he thinks the suspect is local or from out of state, and he said all options are on the table right now.
Davis said they encourage businesses in the area to review their security footage before and after May 26 to see if they have additional videos of the suspect.
They ask anyone with information to report it, no matter how small it may seem.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said Knight was asleep when he was attacked on May 26. They've released a video of who they're looking for as a suspect in the investigation. You can view that video here.
If you know anything about Knight's homicide, or recognize the man in the video, you can call the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office at 478-751-7500 or the Macon Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.
Macon Regional Crime Stoppers does have a reward out for anybody that has information that leads to an arrest.
