MACON, Ga. — Dozens of talented kids performed Saturday night as part of the 2019 Otis Summer Music Camp finale.
Every summer the Otis Redding Foundation hosts a two-week camp where kids learn from professional and collegiate musicians from across the country and work on their singing and instrumental abilities.
The campers worked vigorously under the guidance of those counselors to write, record, and perform their own songs at the camp's grand finale.
The finale performance was in front of a live audience at the Grand Opera House in downtown Macon.
The camp emphasizes creativity and inspiration.
Redding's wife, Zelma, wrote on the camp's website the following quote:
"Educating children through music was a dream of my husband’s, this camp’s emphasis on creativity and inspiration is something I think he would have been proud of and it is the kind of program we will continue to foster through our Foundation."
