'We love to go into our community:' Macon church gives elementary school a makeover

Members of Central City Church in Macon met Saturday to mow lawns, plant trees, and perform other service projects at Heritage Elementary

MACON, Ga. — Saturday in Macon members of Central City Church got out from behind their church walls to serve people in the Central Georgia community. 

Volunteers met at Heritage Elementary School to mow lawns, plant trees, and perform service projects around the school.

The event included a a blow-up maze, picnic tables, and an area for kids to play. 

Central City Pastor Brandon Anderton says more than a thousand churches across the world also participate in 'Serve Day.' 

"We love to go into our community and not just stay behind the walls of the church, but get into the community to love on those inside the community. Those that live in the community that just need to know that Jesus loves them as well," Anderton said.

The event also helped transform the school without burdening the school system.
