Central Georgians give elementary school face lift for Serve Day 2019

Churches are getting out into the community for the international day of service

MACON, Ga. — This Saturday, July 13, churches around the world will be celebrating Serve Day 2019. The day of service is dedicated to churches reaching out and serving their local communities.

In Macon, Central City Church will be working with fellow Central Georgians to revitalize Heritage Elementary School.

"They have a lot of projects that the county is not always able to get to," Central City Church pastor Brandon Anderton said. "We wanted to step up and say 'Where can we play a part? Where can we serve you guys?'"

Members of the church and the Macon community will be taking on a range of projects at Heritage including building a pavilion, painting murals, and working on landscaping.

Anderton said he sees Serve Day as a way to bridge gaps between churches and local communities.

"We have a tendency to think the church only happens inside. The church is the people, it isn't the building," Anderton said. "We look for nothing in return, except to express love."

Come out to Heritage Elementary School at 8 a.m. on Saturday to participate in Serve Day 2019. The service event lasts until 2 p.m.
