Byron Middle School teacher wins top teacher honor

William Warnock teaches 6th grade science at Byron Middle School

BYRON, Ga. — Middle school can be tough, but teachers can make a big difference in the lives of their students.

Junior Journalist Levi Ratzken went to Byron Middle School to surprise 13WMAZ's latest top teacher.

William Warnock answered the door to the his classroom when we arrived to surprise him.

"Good morning Mr. Warnock," Levi said. "I'm Junior Journalist Levi Ratzken, and you're this week's My Teacher is Tops!"

Warnock teaches 6th grade at Byron Middle School. He's been teaching since 2010. Warnock says teaching middle school is a challenge because students are going through so much change, and he wants to help students discover their purpose.

Student NaJuan Pickett sent us a nomination letter. He says Mr. Warnock keeps things fun in the classroom by using a funny voice when he's teaching.

We heard exactly what NaJuan meant when Mr. Warnock started reading about the solar system!

NaJuan said he also makes it easier for them to comprehend what they are doing.

Warnock said he wanted to make a difference from an early age.

"I wanted to be part of the solution instead of being on the sidelines giving my opinions and ideas of what other people should do, " he said. "It's time for me to step up and do my part."
