DAVISBORO, Ga. — An attempted contraband drop at Washington State Prison ended in two arrests early Wednesday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
Byron Gearing, 45, and Demarcus Morgan, 27 — both from Atlanta — were arrested and booked into the Washington County Sheriff's Office.
It all started when a deputy was patrolling near Davisboro.
The sheriff's office says the deputy sighted a vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway near the state prison.
After surveilling the vehicle, the deputy noticed a passenger in the vehicle toss a large trash bag out the window, the sheriff's office
That's when the deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over.
They say the deputy was eventually able to bring the car to a stop and arrest both Gearing and Morgan.
According to the sheriff's office, they seized "a large quantity" of drugs and other contraband.
Gearing was charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, trafficking meth and trading with inmates without consent of the warden.
Morgan was charged with trading with inmates without contest of warden, trafficking meth, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, two counts of conspiracy to committee a felony and fleeing or attempting to elude police
Morgan also faces numerous traffic infractions, including speeding reckless driving, failure to use a turn signal, failure to maintain lane and two counts of stop sign violations.
