JOHNSON COUNTY, Georgia — A Johnson County man will serve more than 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to drug trafficking charges and is still awaiting sentencing on a related dog-fighting ring.
In 2022, investigators rescued nearly 100 dogs from Johnson and other nearby counties. Federal prosecutors say officers found the dogs chained to the ground or penned up in cages. They say many dogs were starving, missing teeth or covered with scars.
Travis Martin and three other men pleaded guilty in that dog-fighting case. He’s also admitted to distributing meth and heroin in Central Georgia.
Martin could serve up to seven years in federal prison on the dog-fighting case in addition to the 16-year drug sentence.
