Former Toombs teacher arrested, accused of having relationship with student

The GBI announced Saturday they arrested Chasity Knight Aug. 27.

TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. — A former Toombs County teacher was booked into jail last week, accused of having a sexual relationship with a student.

Chasity Cheyenne Knight, 25, is charged with one count of Sexual Contact by Employee, Agent, or Foster Parent; Consent Not a Defense, for allegedly having a relationship with a student in January while she was a teacher in Toombs County.

According to a Georgia Bureau of Investigation news release, the Toombs County Sheriff's Office asked them to step in and help investigate allegations of "abuse by a teacher with students in the Toombs County School District."

The GBI says they arrested Knight last Tuesday, Aug. 27, and booked her into the Toombs County Detention Center.

The GBI said that Knight is now out on bond. The Toombs County School District did not specify whther Knight is still employed by the county or what school she specifically taught at. They did provide a statement.

“The Toombs County School System has recently been notified by law enforcement of an investigation into an allegation that we had no prior knowledge of relating to a former employee being involved in an inappropriate relationship with a student," Toombs County Schools superintendent Barrett Waller said in a release. "The Toombs County School System will continue to fully cooperate with law enforcement throughout this investigation.”

The GBI asked anyone with information to call the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Eastman at 478-374-6988. You can report anonymous tips to 1-800-597-TIPS (8477) or online.

Once they finish their investigation, the GBI plans to hand over evidence to Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney Tripp Fitzner. Fitzner's office serves Candler, Emanuel, Jefferson, Toombs and Washington counties.
