MACON, Ga. — Thanksgiving morning is a busy morning at the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.
Jennifer Ballance has volunteered at the center for five years. She says she is always ready to work.
“People need food so anytime I can help in any kind of way I do it. My family understands,” she says.
While many are enjoying a big meal around a full table today, many others are not as fortunate. That's why the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia made 2,200 meals for people in need.
Ballance says she grew up needing assistance from the community.
“I just love giving back because I guess when I was younger we depended on the community,” she says.
Christopher Rawls is a resident at the Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia. He says he has volunteered for two years. He says he feels purpose when volunteering.
“A lot of people don’t have family. A lot of people are missing out on their family. A lot of people lost someone so doing this is like really being a part of family for some people,” he says.
David Wilson and Nancy Wilson are excited to deliver meals to people in need.
“It’s something we have wanted to do for a long time and our friend helped hook us up and here we are. Our kids are grown and doing things with the other side of the family,” she says.
The Wilsons are hopeful to start a new tradition and to spread holiday cheer.
Volunteers delivered meals to hotels, homes, and to the homeless.
