MACON, Ga. — A popular Asian restaurant will be closing its doors soon.
Kimchi Factory, located at 440 Walnut Street in downtown Macon, announced on its personal Facebook that it'll be closing its doors after being open for four years.
As the fans of them and their food expressed their disappointment and sadness at the news, the restaurant commented and responded to them.
"We wish we can stay longer, but we’ll do our best to serve you for as long as we’re still here," they said in the comments.
The restaurant, which opened in 2020, was well known for foods like its sweet potato noodles and other noodle-based dishes, its bento boxes with spicy pork, beef bulgogi, and different types of meat options and of course kimchi.
In the comments, the restaurant said it was forced to close due to money concerns.
They previously faced a risk of permanently closing in July. A Facebook post said the owner, Miyang Rutherford, was facing financial troubles and started a GoFundMe page.
"We’ve been trying to do as best as we can, but as of recent times, we are not in a good place to keep our establishment open and running," the GoFundMe said.
A user in the comments section added that Rutherford had recently undergone surgery in July and had been forced to close the restaurant sometimes. They set a goal of $50,000 but only raised less than $3,000.
The restaurant did announce that they'll remain open for one final week. They'll be open from Oct. 8 through the 12. They'll be open from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., take a break, then re-open from 4 p.m. through 8 p.m.
While Kimchi Factory's time in downtown Macon is ending, they didn't close the door on possibly coming back one day. For now, however, they just want to serve their customers one last time.
"It was a pleasure serving you all, and we want to thank you by doing a fall blowout," they said on Facebook.
