'We are reaching desperate times' | Here's why a Macon restaurant has started a GoFundMe

They say a variety of factors — both business and personal — are jeopardizing the restaurant's future. Now, they're asking for help in keeping the business afloat.

MACON, Ga. — Desperate times call for desperate measures, and one Macon restaurant says that times for them are truly "desperate" and they "need your help."

The Kimchi Factory on 440 Walnut Street Lane says they are struggling to keep their doors open amid slowing business, financial pressure and more. Now, they're going straight to the public in hopes of keeping the business afloat.

In a GoFundMe called "The Kimchi Factory Needs Your Help," the restaurant is asking for help keeping the business — which was opened in 2019 — in business.

"We’ve been trying to do as best as we can, but as of recent times, we are not in a good place to be keeping our establishment open and running," the GoFundMe.

The Korean restaurant says that external pressures are jeopardizing the business along with personal "financial stresses" in the owner's life. However, they did not go into the details there.

"We want to continue serving good food at a price that isn’t too high (though we do understand that not everyone may agree with them)," the GoFundMe says. "But we are reaching desperate times. We need your help."

Amid ongoing struggles and being open on and off in recent weeks, they opened their doors this weekend to sell a variety of kimchi dishes.

The restaurant's doors have been closed in part due to external issues. In a recent post, they said their "owner is in no condition to work today" over possible medical issues.

So far, they've raised just over $2,000 and they hope to be able to keep their doors open during these challenging times.

"Please help so that we may stay open and continue serving Macon," they wrote. "This is the owner’s dream and she’s put her life, blood, sweat, and tears into this business."
