WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — February's cold temperatures have us searching for comfort foods.
What's better than a hot bowl of soup?
If you want to try some "soup"-er soups in central Georgia, one creamy and delicious chicken tortilla soup "calls" to the community of Warner Robins.
McCall's Sandwiches is a staple of Warner Robins cuisine, and has been serving the community since 1987.
They are the only independent family owned sandwich shop in the area, and serve up some of the best soup and sandwich combos around.
"We're your quintessential hometown sandwich shop, um, we've got 24 hot and cold different sandwiches...we have our homemade soups, homemade desserts, and everything we do in house," said owner Ken McCall.
Folks come from all over to try their soups... especially their creamy chicken tortilla.
Lots of people choose to get it with a hot ham and swiss sandwich, and even dip it in there to get extra flavor.
McCall says the soup is unique, and draws people in from all over.
"I think it's unique... there are a lot of chicken tortilla soups but they are more brothy and we make it a creamier base. So, it's a little more hearty, a little more stick to your bones kinda thing," he said.
The soup has layers of flavor and just gets better after every bite. Folks were lined up the whole time we interviewed McCall, all waiting to snag some soup for themselves.
However, if the chicken tortilla soup isn't your speed, not to worry. McCall's has a different soup each day of the week, and you can take your pick!
"We have a rotation of soups each day...starting out on Monday we have our chicken and dumpling, Tuesday is our cream of broccoli, Wednesday is our chicken tortilla, Thursday's is cream of potato, and Friday is our chicken and sausage gumbo," McCall explained.
He says the support they've seen during 'soup season' (as he calls it) has been overwhelming, and they love putting smiles on the faces of his customers.
The eatery has been serving soup and sandwiches at their current location for over 34 years, and McCall is "glad that people look to us as number one."
